Hamiltonian approach to the ac Josephson effect in superconducting-normal hybrid systems

چکیده
The ac Josephson effect in hybrid systems of a normal mesoscopic conductor coupled to two superconducting (S) leads is investigated theoretically. A general formula of the ac components of time-dependent current is derived which is valid for arbitrary interactions in the normal region. We apply this formula to analyze a S-normal-S system where the normal region is a noninteracting single level quantum dot. We report the physical behavior of time-averaged nonequilibrium distribution of electrons in the quantum dot, the formation of Andreev bound states, and ac components of the time-dependent current. The distribution is found to exhibit a population inversion; and all Andreev bound states between the superconducting gap ∆ carry the same amount of current and in the same flow direction. The ac components of time-dependent current show strong oscillatory behavior in marked contrast to the subharmonic gap structure of the average current. 74.50.+r, 73.40.Gk, 73.23.-b, 72.15.Nj Typeset using REVTEX 1

Josephson Current For a Graphene Nanoribbon Using a Lattice Model
A tight binding approach based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach has been used to calculate the DC Josephson current for a lattice model for S-GNR-S junctions , for short junctions with respect to superconducting coherence length. We calculate the phase, length, width and chemical potential dependence at the Josephson junction and discuss the similarities and differences with regard to the t...
متن کاملTheory of AC Josephson Effect in Superconducting Constrictions
We have developed a microscopic theory of ac Josephson effect in short ballistic superconducting constrictions with arbitrary electron transparency, and constrictions with diffusive electron transport. As applications of the theory we study smearing of the subgap current singularities by pair-breaking effects in the superconducting electrodes of the constriction, and the structure of these sing...
متن کاملThe Impact of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Locations on Voltage Sag in Power Distribution System
In this paper, the impacts of installing superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL)in radial and loop power distribution system are evaluated to improve voltage sag in both cases of with and without distributed generations (DG). Among various SFCLs, the hybrid type with a superconducting element in parallel with a current limiting reactor (CLR) is selected. This is more effective than resisto...
متن کاملJosephson effect in small - area superconducting tunnel junctions at 604
We have measured the ac Josephson effect in small-area superconducting tunnel junctions at 604 GHz (A = 496pm) using a resonant planar dipole antenna to couple the radiation into the junction. In a 176-fl junction, we have observed up to the 7th Josephson step (at 8.75 m V), a performance comparable to that seen in point contacts. We also compare our data with the results of the RSJ model and o...
متن کاملIntrinsically localized chaos in discrete nonlinear extended systems
– The phenomenon of intrinsic localization in discrete nonlinear extended systems, i.e. the (generic) existence of discrete breathers, is shown to be not restricted to periodic solutions but it also extends to more complex (chaotic) dynamical behaviour. We illustrate this with two different forced and damped systems exhibiting this type of solutions: In an anisotropic Josephson junction ladder,...
